Crazy Running Girl

25 Feb

Twitter:  www.twitter.com/loramarie

What’s your primary workout?
Running! I try to mix it up with some cross-training but always prefer to run.

How long have you been working out?
I have been running for more than 15 years. I started running when I was in middle school
because I was a little overweight, and just never stopped.

How often do you work out?
I try to run at least four to five days a week and cross-train a few days a week as well.

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in?
I LOVE wearing bright colors and interesting combos (much to my husband’s dismay). This outfit that I ran in during the Ragnar Relay is perhaps one of my favorites:

As you can see, I love sweating pink in the brightest pink possible!

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal?
Just like your favorite five-year-old, my favorite healthy snack is animal crackers! I love them because they are a “healthier” carb and actually a good source of calcium. I recently had some dietary changes and have to cut down on fruits and vegetables, which used to be my go-to snack.

As for meal, one of my favorites now is to roast up some potatoes, chicken sausage and broccoli
and sauté in a skillet on the stove. I add in my favorite spices – like rosemary, garlic and freshly
ground pepper.

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do?
I don’t know where to start! Just kidding. Actually I would probably have a few pieces of pepperoni pizza and follow up with some Blue Bell ice cream for dessert.

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit?
Staying fit isn’t just an appearance thing – you feel better when you are fitter. That’s my biggest motivation. I want to be the best version of myself for my husband, my family, my friends. Working out and running makes me that person.

Any advice for the beginners out there?
Stay with it! It’s hard at first, and it gets better. There’s a point you reach where you have an “ah ha!’ moment and realize that this is what everyone is talking about. That’s when you find yourpassion and your love… once you get to that point, there’s no turning back!

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?                                          I love all the amazing people I’ve been connected with and all the great advice I’ve received along the way. There would be no way that I would have ever ran a Ragnar Relay without the blogging community! I’ve been introduced to some amazing products – like PRO Compression, CLICK
Espresso Protein and Sparkly Soul – that I would never have found on my own.

How do you hope to inspire people?
I hope to inspire people to make fitness and health a priority in their life. It’s so easy to come out with excuses like “I don’t have time” or “I can’t afford that” and I just want to show people that no matter your fitness level or how busy you are, you can do it. Health and fitness needs to be a
priority in our lives, like brushing our teeth or washing our hair. I hope to inspire people to take the jump to make it a priority like that.

What’s your primary workout?
Running is my primary workout.

How long have you been working out? I started running about 2 1/2 years ago.

How often do you work out? I run about 5 days a week and cross train 1-2 days.

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in? I wear all Oiselle Running apparel!

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal? I love fruit for snack and broiled salmon with roasted asparagus.

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do? I would eat McDonald’s Fries!

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit? My boys motivate me to stay fit so I can be around for a very long time with them. I also love when they want to join me running or working out.

Any advice for the beginners out there? Don’t give up. It is going to take work and dedication. You will definitely see results if you are committed.

What’s your favorite thing about blogging? My favorite thing about blogging are the other bloggers I have connected with. Everyone has been so awesome!

How do you hope to inspire people? I would love for others to read my blog and see that hard work really does pay off. I hope they can see if I can live this healthy lifestyle without some crazy diets or pills or surgery, that they can do it too!

Engaged and Running

18 Feb

Name: Jaci
Blog address: www.engagedandrunning.com
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/engagedandrunning
Twitter: https://twitter.com/Engaged_Running

What’s your primary workout? Crossfit is my constant but I train for various runs throughout the year too =)

How long have you been working out? Oh gosh! Forever… really started in high school freshman year when I was training for varsity soccer

How often do you work out? 4-5 times a week **fingers crossed for that, sometimes weather gets in the way of my runs**

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in? I love love love my lululemon pants. They are so comfy and they don’t fall off at all like a lot of another workout capris/pants do. So to run I am usually in lulu pants and just a t-shirt and/or jacket depending on the weather. To Crossfit I am usually in an old baggy t-shirt and soccer shorts- I don’t even try to look cute then!

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal? Snack- I love carrots. I actually love to juice carrots and apples together as a healthy snack… I throw in some spinach in there as well! For a meal- one of my favorite meals is mini-turkey meatloaves. We make meatloaf with lean ground turkey, panko bread crumbs, and anything else you have in your fridge and want to put in meatloaf and then we cook them in a muffin tin. Easy and delicious!

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do? Oh my! What wouldn’t I eat. I love love candy! So I would eat bags of Sour Patch Kids topped off with Oreos and crunchy Cheetos! Is that too much? =)

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit? I feel better about myself when I feel fit. Sure, it helps to look good for others but at the end of the day I want to be able to look in the mirror and say “yes I work hard but I feel good about my body and where I am at”. Attitude is really the most important part to me- if I feel good people around me feel good. <br />Any advice for the beginners out there? Find your inner inspiration. I think too often we start working out because we think it’s the “healthy” thing to do and sure that is true BUT what is really important is working out for you. I think each person should figure out what motivates them and what they enjoy. Don’t run if you don’t love it ya know? Maybe you love organized sports so join a soccer or volleyball team. Maybe you are really in to weight lifting so join a Crossfit gym. There are so many ways to have FUN while being HEALTHY and I would tell a beginning to just start at the beginning and figure out what they love to do and find a way to make it happen. Make the time, make the commitment, and make it happen!
9. What’s your favorite thing about blogging? I love sharing my life with others and not in that “everything is always perfect” kind of way. I like being real and talking about issues that really resonate with me- like body image and that “hard stuff” that people just don’t like to talk about but always appreciate that they are not the only ones going through a hard time. Blogging for me is a way to share my passions… writing, working out, and living life, with others who have similar or completely different views on life. It’s a wonderful way to connect with yourself and others and I just love doing it!

How do you hope to inspire people? I hope to show people that being a size 0 is not always possible and that healthy happy women can be strong. I hope to encourage people to accept who they are and work toward being a better “them” and not someone else they want to be. Mostly I just hope to help 1 person in life feel better about themselves and to really bring awareness that we all have issues whether we are a size 0 or a size 20 and that we should all love each other for who we are. Women need to stop beating themselves up about the number on the scale and what they think other people see. At the end of the day it’s what they think about themselves that is most important… and most inspiring to me!

Work out with Di

Name: Di Hickman

Blog address: http://www.workoutwithdi.com

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/workoutwithdi

Twitter: https://twitter.com/workoutwithdi

What’s your primary workout?
I don’t have one. Unless we’re counting cross training as a workout 😉 Fitness is my job so I tend to see what my day is like and plan my own workout around that. On days where I have cardio classes I’ll do weights for ME, on bodypump class days I’ll do cardio for ME. I also do Personal Training, so I have to save energy for that. Whilst that’s not a workout for me per-say, demonstrating moves and moving equipment around definitely makes me break a sweat during that session.

How long have you been working out?
Since the days of Jane Fonda, with my matching leg warmers, leotards, tights and headbands! No I don’t have any photo proof 😉 I burned any evidence of this era!

How often do you work out?
Everyday. I try to take Sundays off but doesn’t always work that way. Right now I’m working out everyday. Wednesday is my lightest day teaching P90X class and Personal Training.  My busiest day is Thursday: Personal training client, spinning class, yogalates, Bodycombat and cxworx. Yep 5 hours of exercise in one day. I don’t do any workout for ME that day. Other days I try to get in at least an hours workouts for ME rather than clients/classes. Like I said though usually I try to get Sundays off unless I cover for my BFF who teaches classes Sunday morning… like the next two weeks… which means I won’t get a day off until after Thanksgiving!

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in?
Champion shorts and workout tops from Target. LOVE LOVE LOVE Target and Champion! I always check out the workout gear whenever I’m nearby. Which is a LOT. We have 2 Targets in our City and I pass one of them threedi2 times a week, the other one is right next to Trader Joes, so I often pop into that one pre-grocery shopping. I seriously LOVE Champion  C9 clothing. I just found out I can fit in a youths size too, which is good for cheaper sweatshirts and jackets.

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal?
Salads! I love a big salad with leafy greens, beets, zucchini, green onions, shredded carrot, sprouts, tomatoes and strawberries. Tossed in rice wine vinegar. Usually with a sweet potato and scrambled tofu. Strawberries on my salad is a new thing for me. I also add sunflower and sesame seeds. A salad for me isn’t just lettuce and tomato it’s a blend of whatever fruits and veggies I have in my fridge 🙂
Snacks would be my amazeballs or a protein shake. I love the amazeballs though 😉

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do? I have cheat days every week but as I recently discovered I have a wheat sensitivity I’m finding I eat at home much more. Cheat meals for me usually are things like burger and fries (Red Robin anyone?). Though I absolutely LOVE Indian food so that would be a cheat too as most dishes (ok the ones I REALLY like lol) are loaded with cream and fats. Oh and as it really doesn’t count: chocolate raspberry cake from Follow Your Heart restaurant! That is heaven on a plate! Hmmm what would I do? Probably go for a massage/spa day and just relax. I took a 5 day trip once to a spa and it was absolute BLISS!

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit?
My job! Who wants to train with an out of shape personal trainer? I a trainer that talks the talk and walks the walk! My main motivation though is my health. I had a cancer scare in my 20’s and I have polycystic  kidney disease and family history of cancer and diabetes, which means the genetic odds are already stacked against me so I’m doing everything *I* can to be healthy. The cancer scare was the reason fitness became my career, nothing like looking cancer diagnosis in the face to re-evaluate your life!!!

Any advice for the beginners out there?
Just start! Not tomorrow, not Monday, not the New years – NOW. Everyone starts somewhere.

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
Impacting peoples lives in a positive way. Helping them on their health and fitness journey. I reach more people than I can for classes/clients in my area. For me it’s also a good tool to help other instructors and trainers as well as fitness enthusiasts with the 15 years experience I’ve had in the fitness industry. It also means I get to write, which is something I enjoy 🙂

How do you hope to inspire people?
By showing that age doesn’t matter. That your gene pool doesn’t matter. and that women don’t need to do endless hours of cardio to look good! That’s actually a reason I started blogging to inspire, motivate and EDUCATE.

Barking Mad About Running

6 Feb

Blog                                                                                                 Facebook                                                                                             Twitter                                                                                                           barking What’s your primary workout? Running! I just ran the Disney Marathon, in January!

How long have you been working out? I have been working out off and on for 20 years, but I just started running last August

How often do you work out? I run 3 days a week, and try to fit in strength 2 days a week, although that doesn’t always happen! i just started P90X so I hope that helps!

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in? I LOVE running skirts, altho it is getting too cold for that! I also love running in race tees from past races that I have run. Alot of races give out tech shirts now.

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal? Apples and peanut butter is a new fave, and I LOVE making homemade chili with ground turkey. Everybody eats it, and it is a great meal if you add some salad on the side for your veggie.

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do? Cake cake cake, did I mention cake?

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit? The example I set for my kids! They see me losing weight (over 30 lbs in the last year) and they barking1 come to some of my races, and they are in awe. Not an easy things to do when you have teenagers!

Any advice for the beginners out there? Take it slow to avoid injury, READ about whatever new thing you are trying, and be patient. You didn’t get overweight and out of shape over night, so you cannot fix it overnight either. Find a support group and lean on them!

What’s your favorite thing about blogging? I love reaching out to people and giving them inspiration, showing them that it isn’t always easy, and that it can be fun! It is also a great outlet for me, and helps to keep me accountable!

How do you hope to inspire people? I started running at the age of 38, finished 4 Half Marathons at the age of 39, and will complete my first Full Marathon just shy of my 40th birthday. *anyone* can do this! The wonderful thing about racing is that the only person you need to beat is yourself. I love it when my friends tell me that they have started running because they saw me doing it. I hope that I can continue to inspire women my age to finally get active!

**On a side note: I will be running Kim’s Virtual half-marathon this month. This is a virtual half-marathon for Breast Cancer. Her details on Facebook:

Run, walk, bike, or crawl a Half Marathon during the month of February! You can do it all at once, or in stages!

16 Dec

Sometimes, a girl falls into a workout slump. I’ve been naughty lately. I can’t get my butt out of bed in the morning. So, I’ve been having to fit my workout in in the afternoon or the evenings. Makes me so mad. Part of this struggle is I’ve been having some issues with food lately. I know I can’t drink milk. So, I don’t. I think it may be getting worse, so as I’ve been going through the process of elimination, I have not been feeling the greatest. A lot of cramping and just feeling cruddy. That takes a lot of energy out of a girl. The last couple of days I’ve been feeling much better. I have one more dairy product that I will be testing and then I’m done. What an exciting life huh? It’s not a big deal to me if I can’t eat something. That doesn’t bother me. I just hate the process of figuring it out. Uggh. I’ll get it, don’t worry!

I am still getting my workouts in. I just have to wait for Tyrell to get home so I can go run or lift weights. Can’t have a 3 year old running around while you’re on the treadmill. Unless you’re an idiot. I really need to start waking up at 5 again and getting back into my morning groove. BAD!

I asked my fellow SPA sisters on what they do if they are in a workout rut. Here are their words of wisdom:

Christie says, “I usually switch it up for something else. Trying yoga, pilates, boxing, anything that’s different from my usual. Even Xbox kinect games (I feel ridiculous, but they’re fun) or things I can do with my kid.”

Nicole at Revvedrunner says, “I have found that when I engage in encouraging others, my ‘funk’ lifts. I am not saying that I go about the business of encouraging others with the hopes of getting out of my own funk, I am just doing it (I find that when I am most ‘funky’, I am the least involved in other things, sort of secluding myself). When I look back, I see that when I was the most active in encouraging others to do their thing, I was the least ‘funky’. Does that even make sense?! "

Lea says, “Sometimes a short break is what we need. I think it is perfectly normal to cycle from being highly motivated, to feeling blah. After all, this is a healthy lifestyle complete with ups and downs.”

Sarah at Fitbetty says, “Switch it up! Take some time off to reevaluate your goals and what you really want out of your workouts. Then find a new workout plan, class, or a new challenge to freshen things up. I try to change things up every1-2 months so you don’t feel like your in a rut. I was doing 3 days a week total body strength for quite a while, but now I’m doing a split. Even just that little change has made a difference for me.”

Marielle at Fit Girl Pretty World says, “Sometimes you just need a break, it’s ok to take a week off from the gym or your workout routine. Our bodies do need time to heal and recover and sometimes we forget about that! And like everyone else said- switch up your routine! “

Brittany at BBB Fit and Healthy says, “I find that it helps to try something totally new to break up the routine! Are you a runner? Try swimming! Zumba? try weightlifting, or ballet! Get crazy:) “

Molly says, “I force myself to go and either do something I have never done like a class or take a friend to something I like to look at it in new eyes. Just to revive the fun factor again!”

Martha at Marthalicious says, “Sometimes you just need to "deload" – stay away from working out until you can’t stand it any longer and you’re dying to get back in there and kill it Focus on keeping your nutrition spot on during this period and spend your workout time reading or writing or just relaxing. You will be a million times better off if you allow your body the time to just chill.”

Maria at Lil Mys Ninja says, “I just went through a similar funk recently! I’ve found that I was burnt out and needed a rest! I did beat myself over it but finally came to terms with it being ok to take a break. Then I chose a new workout I had not done to kinda "shock" my body and remotivate my mind and voila! I was back at it, rejuvenated! Motivational quotes help me get through it also and speaking with others about it helps too".

Thanks ladies for your input. Always remember that no one is perfect. We all go through the same thing. The important thing is is that you recognize and address it. Don’t ignore it and give up on yourself. NEVER!

If you have completely fallen off the workout wagon, come read my post on Piper’s Run. I blab about that too.

Run With Kate

5 Dec

Name: Kate
Blog address: http://www.runwithkate.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/runwithkate
Twitter: @RunwithKate (https://twitter.com/RunwithKate)

What’s your primary workout?
I’m a runner, so runs of 7km+ are my staple. I also incorporate strength training and cross-training (cycling and the elliptical).

How long have you been working out?
I’ve been working out since 2008, but my running adventures began in 2011.

How often do you work out?
I workout 6 times each week. It would be 7, but I’m told I need a rest day!

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in?
I sweat pink in my pink laces – always. My favorite outfits come from Lorna Jane, and are usually leggings, a tight-fitting crop, and a tank.

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal?
I love vegetables – so my favorite meal is a stack of vegetables with garlic, coriander, cumin and pepper, with chicken or tofu. For my healthy snack, I hit the Chobani 0% – hard (3 liters a week hard!). I mix it up with oats, peanut butter and berries. Let’s be honest though, I definitely have my fair share of chocolate snacks too.

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do?                                                                                                                      I honestly think I would eat and act similarly – food makes me happy, and I try to ensure I don’t feel deprived. I notice I feel better when I eat well and exercise, and I like that. A lot. Ok, maybe I’m just a control freak. …I might add some more ice-cream in!

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit?
Goals keep me going. Right now, I want to work on my 10km, and most recently, I was training for a marathon. The desire to achieve pushes me through.

Any advice for the beginners out there?
Go slow! There is no need to rush, and all movement is good movement. Running in particular can kick you from behind – so respect it, slow down, and measure improvements in small chunks – can you run to the next tree today? Did you stay out for an extra 5 minutes?

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
The community! I have met so many incredible, intelligent, and funny people. Blogging and meeting bloggers always make me smile.

How do you hope to inspire people?
I don’t think about inspiring people so much as letting them know that we are all pretty similar and klutzy at heart. I tell my readers about the good and the ugly, I let them know when I eat terrible food, when I feel down, and when I end up in tears after falling off a bike. If you know that I still stuff up ALL the time, but manage to meet my goals, then hopefully that makes you feel a bit better about being human!
