I kinda blew up.

Let me tell you how I “blew up” last week. I ran another half-marathon January 26th. I lifted the next day and then I decided to give myself a break. I weighed myself that Monday and I had gained 8-10 pounds. I didn’t totally freak out because I did just run 13.1 and I knew it was all water weight. I am not going to lie to you and say that this didn’t get me down a bit. I decided to treat myself to a massage. She worked miracles and I decided this will be my prize after every half. Because I deserve it. Damnit.

Tuesday. Wednesday. Thursday. It was Friday and I still felt like a water balloon. I was driving my husband crazy. I was becoming a major pain. Whining and whining. I admit it. I was a big baby. I am very in tune with my body and I tend to get obsessive. So, after 5 days of feeling like crap I decided to go on a cleanse. A cleanse created by me.

This cleanse consisted of lots of water, Shakeology, Click Protein, lots of veggies, and lots of fruit. That’s all the details I am giving because I don’t want to sound like I know what I am talking about and have you try and then you end up as crazy as me. Three days later and 12 pounds lighter I hit that workout room feeling like a brand new girl. Whew.

Since I have 12 more races to go I need to adjust some things with my training and fueling. It will be trial and error. I going to amp up my fruits, veggies, seeds, and nuts. I have a few more weeks until my next half. I’ll figure it out. Don’t you worry your pretty little heart. And if I don’t, I’ll be a big, whiny baby again.

My plans for training this month involve running of course, P90x, TurboFire, and Les Mills Pump. Sounds fun right!?

I did it!

Yesterday I ran a half-marathon. This was a huge deal for me. I signed up for the Bismarck Marathon before I went out for my very first run. I knew I could do it with the right training and hard work. And now I can talk about it…finally!

I took Friday off from work because I knew it was going to be a crazy day of packing and trying to remember everything. We decided it would be best for our little family if we got a hotel room the night before the race. So, not only did I have to pack for the race and myself, but I had to try and remember everything for Maddox. You got to be prepared when you have kids and you’re going out of town! It basically looked like we were going away for the month when we headed out the door! I’m glad they came with me. I know I wouldn’t have slept that night if I had to be there by myself. I need my boys.

I picked up my racing bag at the mall. It had a nice long sleeve Krohl’s Diner Bismarck Marathon shirt in it and some coupons. Not a whole lot. I did buy another shirt and jacket there. They were super cheap, so why not!?

After that we ran to Scheels to get Maddox some shoes and I purchased a new top for the race. I figured it was going to be quite chilly so I got a long sleeved shirt.

It was finally time to eat! We went to the Olive Garden. I noticed alot of runners made the same choice! We always order Bruschetta  for an appetizer. Scarfed that down along with my salad and bread. Main course was angel hair pasta with a tomato sauce. Nothing fancy. It’s what I usually order in some way or another.

After we ate we went back to the hotel and went swimming for a bit. It was Maddox’s first time swimming! Do you think Daddy remembered to take pictures? Probably not…

Let’s skip to the next morning because I’m starting to fall asleep. I woke up at 5:30 and got ready. I was planning on getting down there by 6:15. I grabbed a banana and ate it. I barely had my eyes open yet. I didn’t have to put my contacts in because me, being the bonehead that I am, forgot my contact solution! It was nice trying to peel my eyes open. By the way, I still have no idea where my contact solution is. WTH? I put my makeup on, threw my hair in a pony, got dressed, and then Tyrell took a picture of me. Don’t I look just overjoyed and thrilled?

I walked out the door and I was on my way! When I got there it was dark out and cold! I sat in the car for a while and then walked to the potties. I kept thinking about my grandpa telling me that kids fall in there all the time and they can’t get out. He told me this when I was little and I don’t think I’ve used one since! What a nice grandpa huh? He was, just liked to give you a bad time. ANYWAYS, so I quick went in and out and I ran back to my car to warm up. We had to line up at 7:10. The sun was rising and so was the temperature. It felt just right for an early morning run. During the National Anthem I realized I was standing in the complete wrong area and I had to bud in to a billion runners. I’m such an idiot. So, I finally got to where I wanted to be. In the back! It was chip timed, so it didn’t matter where I was.

I kept a steady pace throughout the entire run. The hill was a beotch. I’m just glad I never stopped to walk once. I am not a fast runner, but I give it my all, and I finished. The volunteers were great and the cheering sections were awesome.

I finished the race at 2:26:28. Seventeen minutes from what I thought. I honestly thought I was going to have to walk at some point, so I allowed myself that time. Got to start somewhere right?

It was a great run. The weather could not have been more perfect. I listed to my book and I have no idea what went on. So, I will have to go back and listen. I was concentrating so much on my pace and my surroundings.

Just before the finish line I saw my mom holding Maddox. I was so happy to see them! I crossed that sucker, received my medal, and I went over to the tent to get a beverage. I was handed a water and some chocolate milk and a grocery bag with a banana, rice krispie treat, and some pretzels. I chugged the water and milk and walked to meet my family. My mom gave me a hug and my dad made some smart ass comment about having to walk so far to get to the car. Got to love that guy. On the way back to the hotel I drank a Strawberry Vegan Shakeology.

No time to rest! I had to quick shower and pack so we could all go eat. My stomach was starting to really bother me. I almost felt like I was having a contraction. I ignored and we went to eat…more pasta. My stomach was killing me. I wasn’t hungry, but I knew I had to eat something. After we were done eating we headed to Menards to get fun things like stain and a wheelbarrow. A light bulb went off in my head and I mentally slapped myself. You idiot! You drank milk! I’ve had a sneaky suspicion for a while now that my body has a hard time digesting dairy. I can’t even tell you the last time I ever drank a glass of milk. Atleast I knew what the problem was. A very painful problem. I would have lied down in the aisles of Menards if I could get down there myself. I supposed I could have asked someone to push me. We headed home shortly after that. I talked to a pharmacist and she said I just had to wait it out.

I felt alot better that night so after church Tyrell and I went to a movie and then out for a glass of wine afterwards. We came home, ate a late supper, and I think we were both asleep before 11. Pure exhaustion.

Today I sort of feel like I have a bad hangover. I’m tired and groggy. And I feel like this blog may not make alot of sense. I sort of feel like I’ve been drinking and typing. Uh oh! Hopefully tomorrow I will feel as good as new. It was a great weekend. A weekend I’ve been looking forward to for a long time! I did it!

If you look to your right (on the screen) you will see that I have 13 days until I run a half-marathon. 13.1 miles. 13.1 miles should not be considered “only half” of anything. I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks this. Right?

Any who-I normally run long on Sunday’s, but I woke up to some rain and thunder and figured I better stay in. If it came right down to it, I would just run the 9 miles on the treadmill (super boring), but since I have the day off tomorrow, I will run it then. Simple as pie.

I started an online workout log for you to view and enjoy. I should have done this a long time ago. I post alot of my workouts on facebook, but I thought this would be another way for me to be accountable.

Do you log your workouts? I feel like that’s all I do. I log them through Beachbody, through work (we get points for eating healthy and working out), Myfitnesspal, and now through here. I think in order to be successful you need to let people know what you’re doing. Sometimes I feel like “they’re watching me, I better move…”  and I go and do something. If I kept this all to myself I probably wouldn’t feel guilty if I quit or didn’t try hard enough. I like to feel the pressure. That’s how I operate. 

If you’re serious about your health and fitness, whether you want to improve or maintain, you need to do what’s best for you. Take a look and ask yourself what would work best? Are you living at your full potential? Could you be feel better? Why do you keep putting it off? Do you need help? Did you know, all you have to do is ask?

Banana Bread Oatmeal

Did you see my post on Facebook this morning? My yummy Banana Bread Oatmeal? I made it ALL by myself and it turned out delicious!

1/2 cup oats (I used Bob’s Red Mill 5 Grain Rolled Hot Cereal)

1 cup Almond Milk

1 teaspoon Nutmeg (to taste)

2 teaspoon cinnamon (to taste)

1 tablespoon vanilla

Banana

Mix all ingredients except for banana in small pot and heat until oats are cooked through. When it is to the consistency you prefer take off heat. Pour in bowl and cut up a banana and place on top. Enjoy!

I ran this morning before work. After I run I ALWAYS have Shakeology. It’s important to replace lost minerals and nutrients. It also re-energizes and reduces muscle soreness. There are so many more reasons why I still drink this every day. I could go on and on. Want me to? Later? Ok.

Anyways, about an hour after I drink my shake I make my breakfast and it’s usually oatmeal. Peanut butter oatmeal is one of my favorites, but I decided I was in a banana bread mood. Hence, the new recipe.

About once or twice a week my husband and I do our own things for dinner. That’s when I make something I know I love and he doesn’t. Then I can eat it all! I found a zucchini (a huge zucchini) sitting in my garden today. I decided to chop it up and just roast it with a bunch of other root veggies like beets, carrots, and onions. I doubled the batch so I can I have left overs tomorrow. I made some quinoa to go along with it. They pair nicely.

Tomorrow is my Friday. Tyrell informed me that he hates when people say that. He’s just jealous. I’m getting excited for the weekend. It’s our class reunion (10 years). We had such a small class, only 13 of us, so it will be fun to see and visit with everyone. I better start looking for something to wear now…

Happy March 5th!

Finally! What a beautiful day! The weather has not been favorable this past week and a half. So, that means we have had to put a hold on our training. Bummer! We were going to go early yesterday morning, but the roads were just dusted with some fresh, powdery snow. So, I went and found my pillow and blanket. I believe my partner-in-crime went and did her Insanity workout. She rocks.
I do not know how warm it got today, but I do know that it was warm enough to open up all of the windows in the house. I even cleaned my oven. Well, I hit the button…
When my husband came home from work, I was dressed and ready and out the front door. There she was, waiting for me with her cute little “finish line” print bandana. She loves bandanas!
Todays interval training was: run for 2 minutes and walk 2 minutes 5 times. It was so nice for my lungs to breathe in the warm air. The sun was shining bright. It was starting to set and was in our eyes right away, but I certainly am not complaining. It felt so good to get out there. I could tell that I had a week and a half of no running because I was getting tuckered out. When I feel tired I always think how blessed I am, how far I have come, and how grateful I am to my husband for being so supportive. He has been nothing but.
I am also grateful for my very motivational friend. She is my cheerleader! She holds the stopwatch and she is always cheering us on. If you listen carefully, you just may be able to
hear her. She is just the best.
