Blog-iversary and a GIVEAWAY!!

1 Mar

Happy Anniversary to me! A year ago today I wrote my very first post. Did I think I would be doing this…still? No? Do you want me to stop? Maybe. I’ll stop when I run out of things to say. And if you ask anyone I know, I just don’t know how to shut up.

So, whether this is your first time reading my very well thought out words or your last, I thank you. I mean it. I really do. There are a billion bloggers better than me out there. But, you are here. Reading MY words. You must feel so much wiserer…

I’ll keep this short and sweet so you can go on with your lives. I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate you reading. It takes time to figure out what I’m trying to say. Trust me. I can barely make sense of myself. I love seeing strong traffic on a post. I love that YOU care about what I have to say. THANK YOU!

My gift to you: I’m doing a LÄRABAR giveaway. To enter, just comment below on how much you love me. No, just kidding. Just tell me what your favorite color is. Go crazy. And as usual…extra points for Facebooking, Tweeting, etc.

Love to you all!!

My primary workout?   Bootcamp, Running, Hiking

How long have I been working out?  Years, started in my 20’s…the gym was my primary workout, weight training, classes, everything from Spin (which I am awful at, because I kept sliding off the seat the faster we went) step classes with sculpting were my fav.  I am in my middle 40’s now and still maintaining and am always doing something active.

How often?  That depends on my mood :)  Five days a week is my goal, for sure…but some days I have my "don’t want to do it" moments

My fav outfit to Sweat Pink in? For sure my black yoga/running pants always…they hold me in:) and I usually layer in the winter months..depending on how much sweat or my hotflashes!!! In the spring and summer…running skirt/or cropped pant and tank…along with my sunscreen!!  Pink is my fav color to wear though always:)

My fav healthy snack and/or meal? I don’t have a fav…this depends on my mood..I do keep cauliflower and sweet potatoes in the house at all times…ready to steam when I need.  Celery is a huge fav of mine, cut up with an avocado and some beans and rice vinegar…and for sure Sushi…I love Nigiri with Ahi Tuna and wasabi of course 🙂

Cheat day?  Well the days I don’t get a workout in are my "cheat" days.  What would I eat? Whole wheat pizza with Feta cheese and peppers and veggies OR cheese fondue.

Biggest motivation for staying fit? My age now…My metab is slowing down and hormones kick in…Working from home and at a desk can cause the booty to get big…SO I remind myself of that…ALSO my family, I still want to play and keep up with my kids, and my hubby…I love to challenge him to workouts:)

Any advice for beginners?  Don’t get caught up with magazine pics and social media press and tabloids, etc… Air brushing exists because we are not perfect! Be real and be yourself. Take care of your body INSIDE first, then the outside will follow…this means learn about your food and eating healthy..teach yourself now early on.  Starting a fitness regimen? You will have those days that you want to quit and throw in the towel..trust me…but reach deep inside your heart and find your passion and goal…Don’t listen to your head…listen to your heart.

My fav thing about blogging?  I get to share my words with anyone who is willing to follow and read…better yet, for those who come back for more:) I get to use blogging as a platform to hopefully inspire and be creative with my passion.  There are so many amazing blogs out there and I love finding and following them.  It is like a "family" of kind and loving and supportive others.

How do I hope to inspire?  By letting others see "me" the real me and hopefully like what they see.  To be a "light" on someone’s dark day, to maybe ignite a passion for someone else or and idea.  I am inspired everyday by others.

What’s your primary workout?
Running! I try to mix it up with some cross-training but always prefer to run.

How long have you been working out?
I have been running for more than 15 years. I started running when I was in middle school
because I was a little overweight, and just never stopped.

How often do you work out?
I try to run at least four to five days a week and cross-train a few days a week as well.

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in?
I LOVE wearing bright colors and interesting combos (much to my husband’s dismay). This outfit that I ran in during the Ragnar Relay is perhaps one of my favorites:

lora1

As you can see, I love sweating pink in the brightest pink possible!

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal?
Just like your favorite five-year-old, my favorite healthy snack is animal crackers! I love them because they are a “healthier” carb and actually a good source of calcium. I recently had some dietary changes and have to cut down on fruits and vegetables, which used to be my go-to snack.

As for meal, one of my favorites now is to roast up some potatoes, chicken sausage and broccoli
and sauté in a skillet on the stove. I add in my favorite spices – like rosemary, garlic and freshly
ground pepper.

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do?
I don’t know where to start! Just kidding. Actually I would probably have a few pieces of pepperoni pizza and follow up with some Blue Bell ice cream for dessert.

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit?
Staying fit isn’t just an appearance thing – you feel better when you are fitter. That’s my biggest motivation. I want to be the best version of myself for my husband, my family, my friends. Working out and running makes me that person.

Any advice for the beginners out there?
Stay with it! It’s hard at first, and it gets better. There’s a point you reach where you have an “ah ha!’ moment and realize that this is what everyone is talking about. That’s when you find yourpassion and your love… once you get to that point, there’s no turning back!

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?                                          I love all the amazing people I’ve been connected with and all the great advice I’ve received along the way. There would be no way that I would have ever ran a Ragnar Relay without the blogging community! I’ve been introduced to some amazing products – like PRO Compression, CLICK
Espresso Protein and Sparkly Soul – that I would never have found on my own.

How do you hope to inspire people?
I hope to inspire people to make fitness and health a priority in their life. It’s so easy to come out with excuses like “I don’t have time” or “I can’t afford that” and I just want to show people that no matter your fitness level or how busy you are, you can do it. Health and fitness needs to be a
priority in our lives, like brushing our teeth or washing our hair. I hope to inspire people to take the jump to make it a priority like that.

What’s your primary workout?
Running

How long have you been working out?
I have been playing soccer since I was 4, played college, running was a replacement for some negativity happening in my life, then it became a stress reliever and now if I don’t do it every other day, I feel very uneasy. So basically I have been working out a long time.

How often do you work out?
5 days a week

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in?
Depends on the season. I prefer lululemon turbo shorts, sweat pink tank top and my camelbak

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal?

Healthy snack: apple with peanut butter
Healthy meal: homemade stir fry

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do?
I would eat cake – lots of cake and different kinds of cake. TONS of frosting would be a must and probably endless nachos

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit?
Maintaining the mental sanity that comes to me after working out

Any advice for the beginners out there?
Be like Nike and Just do it. Get out there and start!

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
The idea of writing anything and everything that is on my mind. People interaction is nice too! As a computer programmer, I don’t get a ton of that at work!

How do you hope to inspire people?
Wow, my first reaction was “by being awesome”! hehehe Honestly, I hope to inspire people by just showing them that you don’t have to be running a 5 minute mile or trying to lose 50lbs, I mean, running will help you lose weight and if you practice, you will get faster; however, you can enjoy running without ulterior motives. I am on a mission to prove this and to inspire people to move forward in all facets of their life as opposed to backwards.

What’s your primary workout?
My primary go-to workout lately has been a Tabata high intensity interval. I enjoy HIIT because it’s quick and effective at working out your entire body in a short period of time. This week I’ve been doing 8 exercises at 30 seconds all-out-intensity for each and a 20 second recovery between each set. I usually do 2-3 sets of the 8. Alot of times all I’m using is my own body weight, which you can see in our workout videos on our YouTube channel.

How long have you been working out? I’ve been active all my life. It began as a high school athlete and than I quickly picked up DI track and field in college where I went on to crush the school record in the 1000 meters. Since then I’ve remained active doing my Tabata workouts and I enjoy training for long distance races. I’ve done a few 10 miler races and completed my first half marathon in Philadelphia.

How often do you work out?
I try to workout almost everyday. It’s not always a standardized routine that I plan sometimes it involves my commute to training my clients or working out with my clients. For example today I biked an hour to train one of my clients. I tend to get around by bike a lot in Brooklyn.

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in?
My favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in is my spandex shorts from Nike and a plain old tank top. If I’m at home I like to workout barefoot otherwise I’m currently training in my new shoes from Therafit, these are especially designed shoes for women who are on their feet all day. They come with removeable insoles to adjust the comfort and support level.

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal?
My favorite healthy snack would be either hummus with crackers or a protein shake. My favorite healthy meal is salmon with brown rice and asparagus or else a turkey burger with sweet potato fries.

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do?
On a cheat day I would indulge in anything sweet. I love chocolate so I would probably go for a slice of chocolate tart and I also love key lime pie. For a meal I would splurge by having homemade lasagna. As far as activity goes I would probably do something adventurous because I enjoy being active. My favorite extreme sport I’ve tried is hang gliding.

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit?
My biggest motivation to staying fit is my profession. As a personal trainer people aspire to me so I have to set a good example and in modeling it’s all about how well you take care of yourself. I’m also motivated by some recent losses in my family. Both my father and grandmother died of cancer from poor lifestyles, which is why I will never smoke nor abuse any drug of any sort. I’m all about being fit naturally without any drug influence.

Any advice for the beginners out there? Never stop. The hardest part about healthy living is not reaching your goals as much as it is maintaining them. A lot of people get to where they want to be and than fall off again. You have to remember to treat your health as a lifestyle not a quick fix. If you don’t choose to incorporate healthy choices into your everyday you’ll never reach your fullest potential.

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
I love reaching people I would never have the chance to meet in person. It’s like having a second family. The people reading my blog become loyal followers and the reactions and comments they leave let me know how much they buy into what I’m telling them. It’s not about how many people I can train in the gym, that’s only part of it, it’s about how many people I can influence to make a change in their life for the better.

How do you hope to inspire people?
I hope I can inspire people by the way I choose to live my own life. I don’t sugar coat myself, so people find they can relate to me. I stay real to who I am including the mistakes and tribulations I too face. Choosing to be healthy in all aspects of your life is not an easy feat. It’s requires patience, discipline, self-respect and a commitment to a larger community than just yourself. You have to believe that what you do for yourself is ultimately going to lead to a healthier community for us all because we each play a role in a larger whole.

Any advice for the beginners out there?
My advice for beginners is “stick with it” the hardest step is starting, you must convince yourself you are worth it. You may not see results right away and you will have setbacks but don’t get discouraged take everything as a learning experience.

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
I am fairly new to blogging but I love that I am able to share my experiences and parts of my life with others. It has given me the opportunity to meet people from all over the world that I never would have met otherwise.

I hope by sharing my experiences and daily struggles shows people that we all experience them and for people looking to start maybe my story will give them the push to do so.
