Best things come in packages…

15 Feb

As you know, as well as the postal service, I love getting packages and I may have a slight problem, but I do this for YOU, so you’re informed! It’s hard work, but someone’s gotta do it. I signed up for something new the other day, Runner Box.

RunnerBox is a subscription based box for runners, triathletes and other active people. It is a mini shoebox filled with running products, mailed to your front door. It has everything from energy products, gels, chews, protein shakes/supplements, nutrition bars, skincare, and other accessories! Some products will be brand new (but personally tested) on the market, and some will be tried and true favorites.

I jumped on this because I love trying new things without having to buy the whole shabang. That’s why I also do Nature Box and Bulu Box.
So here’s what I got.

•Get Active Herbal Tea
•Cocoa Via
•GU Chomps
•Bonk Breaker
•ElectroMix
•Sport Beans
•Endurox R4
•Mila
•Honey Stinger
•Sport Legs

I have to say that I am pretty excited about this. I haven’t tried alot of these before. Gives me more of a reason to run. We all know why runners run….to eat!!

Chobani also sent me a case of greek yogurt to fuel my half-marathons. They even threw in some of Maddox’s favorite flavor, vanilla. He’s even spoiled by major corporations. What a dude.

Oh, and GU Energy Lab sent me a TON of gels. These are my favorite. I wake up thinking about these. They are delicious and they work. I have plenty, as you can see!

How do you fuel your runs? Share please!

Work out with Di

What’s your primary workout?
I don’t have one. Unless we’re counting cross training as a workout 😉 Fitness is my job so I tend to see what my day is like and plan my own workout around that. On days where I have cardio classes I’ll do weights for ME, on bodypump class days I’ll do cardio for ME. I also do Personal Training, so I have to save energy for that. Whilst that’s not a workout for me per-say, demonstrating moves and moving equipment around definitely makes me break a sweat during that session.

How long have you been working out?
Since the days of Jane Fonda, with my matching leg warmers, leotards, tights and headbands! No I don’t have any photo proof 😉 I burned any evidence of this era!

How often do you work out?
Everyday. I try to take Sundays off but doesn’t always work that way. Right now I’m working out everyday. Wednesday is my lightest day teaching P90X class and Personal Training.  My busiest day is Thursday: Personal training client, spinning class, yogalates, Bodycombat and cxworx. Yep 5 hours of exercise in one day. I don’t do any workout for ME that day. Other days I try to get in at least an hours workouts for ME rather than clients/classes. Like I said though usually I try to get Sundays off unless I cover for my BFF who teaches classes Sunday morning… like the next two weeks… which means I won’t get a day off until after Thanksgiving!

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in?
Champion shorts and workout tops from Target. LOVE LOVE LOVE Target and Champion! I always check out the workout gear whenever I’m nearby. Which is a LOT. We have 2 Targets in our City and I pass one of them threedi2 times a week, the other one is right next to Trader Joes, so I often pop into that one pre-grocery shopping. I seriously LOVE Champion  C9 clothing. I just found out I can fit in a youths size too, which is good for cheaper sweatshirts and jackets.

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal?
Salads! I love a big salad with leafy greens, beets, zucchini, green onions, shredded carrot, sprouts, tomatoes and strawberries. Tossed in rice wine vinegar. Usually with a sweet potato and scrambled tofu. Strawberries on my salad is a new thing for me. I also add sunflower and sesame seeds. A salad for me isn’t just lettuce and tomato it’s a blend of whatever fruits and veggies I have in my fridge 🙂
Snacks would be my amazeballs or a protein shake. I love the amazeballs though 😉

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do? I have cheat days every week but as I recently discovered I have a wheat sensitivity I’m finding I eat at home much more. Cheat meals for me usually are things like burger and fries (Red Robin anyone?). Though I absolutely LOVE Indian food so that would be a cheat too as most dishes (ok the ones I REALLY like lol) are loaded with cream and fats. Oh and as it really doesn’t count: chocolate raspberry cake from Follow Your Heart restaurant! That is heaven on a plate! Hmmm what would I do? Probably go for a massage/spa day and just relax. I took a 5 day trip once to a spa and it was absolute BLISS!

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit?
My job! Who wants to train with an out of shape personal trainer? I a trainer that talks the talk and walks the walk! My main motivation though is my health. I had a cancer scare in my 20’s and I have polycystic  kidney disease and family history of cancer and diabetes, which means the genetic odds are already stacked against me so I’m doing everything *I* can to be healthy. The cancer scare was the reason fitness became my career, nothing like looking cancer diagnosis in the face to re-evaluate your life!!!

Any advice for the beginners out there?
Just start! Not tomorrow, not Monday, not the New years – NOW. Everyone starts somewhere.

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
Impacting peoples lives in a positive way. Helping them on their health and fitness journey. I reach more people than I can for classes/clients in my area. For me it’s also a good tool to help other instructors and trainers as well as fitness enthusiasts with the 15 years experience I’ve had in the fitness industry. It also means I get to write, which is something I enjoy 🙂

How do you hope to inspire people?
By showing that age doesn’t matter. That your gene pool doesn’t matter. and that women don’t need to do endless hours of cardio to look good! That’s actually a reason I started blogging to inspire, motivate and EDUCATE.

Barking Mad About Running

6 Feb

Blog                                                                                                 Facebook                                                                                             Twitter                                                                                                           barking What’s your primary workout? Running! I just ran the Disney Marathon, in January!

How long have you been working out? I have been working out off and on for 20 years, but I just started running last August

How often do you work out? I run 3 days a week, and try to fit in strength 2 days a week, although that doesn’t always happen! i just started P90X so I hope that helps!

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in? I LOVE running skirts, altho it is getting too cold for that! I also love running in race tees from past races that I have run. Alot of races give out tech shirts now.

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal? Apples and peanut butter is a new fave, and I LOVE making homemade chili with ground turkey. Everybody eats it, and it is a great meal if you add some salad on the side for your veggie.

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do? Cake cake cake, did I mention cake?

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit? The example I set for my kids! They see me losing weight (over 30 lbs in the last year) and they barking1 come to some of my races, and they are in awe. Not an easy things to do when you have teenagers!

Any advice for the beginners out there? Take it slow to avoid injury, READ about whatever new thing you are trying, and be patient. You didn’t get overweight and out of shape over night, so you cannot fix it overnight either. Find a support group and lean on them!

What’s your favorite thing about blogging? I love reaching out to people and giving them inspiration, showing them that it isn’t always easy, and that it can be fun! It is also a great outlet for me, and helps to keep me accountable!

How do you hope to inspire people? I started running at the age of 38, finished 4 Half Marathons at the age of 39, and will complete my first Full Marathon just shy of my 40th birthday. *anyone* can do this! The wonderful thing about racing is that the only person you need to beat is yourself. I love it when my friends tell me that they have started running because they saw me doing it. I hope that I can continue to inspire women my age to finally get active!

**On a side note: I will be running Kim’s Virtual half-marathon this month. This is a virtual half-marathon for Breast Cancer. Her details on Facebook:

Run, walk, bike, or crawl a Half Marathon during the month of February! You can do it all at once, or in stages!
For $20, you can run your race wherever and whenever you want, and I will mail you a medal! You will also be eligible to win prizes! I will add one prize for every 10 people to register. Sounds pretty awesome right? I’m running the half on Februrary 23rd. You?

I kinda blew up.

5 Feb

Let me tell you how I “blew up” last week. I ran another half-marathon January 26th. I lifted the next day and then I decided to give myself a break. I weighed myself that Monday and I had gained 8-10 pounds. I didn’t totally freak out because I did just run 13.1 and I knew it was all water weight. I am not going to lie to you and say that this didn’t get me down a bit. I decided to treat myself to a massage. She worked miracles and I decided this will be my prize after every half. Because I deserve it. Damnit.

Tuesday. Wednesday. Thursday. It was Friday and I still felt like a water balloon. I was driving my husband crazy. I was becoming a major pain. Whining and whining. I admit it. I was a big baby. I am very in tune with my body and I tend to get obsessive. So, after 5 days of feeling like crap I decided to go on a cleanse. A cleanse created by me.

This cleanse consisted of lots of water, Shakeology, Click Protein, lots of veggies, and lots of fruit. That’s all the details I am giving because I don’t want to sound like I know what I am talking about and have you try and then you end up as crazy as me. Three days later and 12 pounds lighter I hit that workout room feeling like a brand new girl. Whew.

Since I have 12 more races to go I need to adjust some things with my training and fueling. It will be trial and error. I going to amp up my fruits, veggies, seeds, and nuts. I have a few more weeks until my next half. I’ll figure it out. Don’t you worry your pretty little heart. And if I don’t, I’ll be a big, whiny baby again.

My plans for training this month involve running of course, P90x, TurboFire, and Les Mills Pump. Sounds fun right!?

Piper’s Run

PIPER
What’s your primary workout? Running.

How long have you been working out? I’ve been active since I was a wee little one; downhill skiing at 3 years old, soccer at 5. I started to work out more as a teenager and into my adulthood. Competitive sports ended around age 20, so roughly 12 years I have been working out.

How often do you work out? I am for 3 – 5 days a week on top of working full time, having a toddler and now baby #2 on the way.

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in? Anything that allows me to move well. MEC running pants in the winter with a wicking long sleeved shirt and Running Room jacket.

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal? I’m a big fan of Coconut Greek yogurt with blueberries or Soy chocolate milk.

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do? Nacho’s and potato skins!

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit? My family is my biggest motivator. I want to be healthy for my 2 year old daughter, my husband and baby #2 on the way. Being a positive role model for my children is extremely important to me and helps me stay motivated.

Any advice for the beginners out there? One step at at time. Start moving a little more each day and less sitting. Set simple goals for yourself each week and schedule them at various times throughout the week to match your changing schedule.

What’s your favorite thing about blogging? Meeting other bloggers and being accountable to my followers. If I talk the talk, I must walk the walk or else I feel like I am failing the focus of my blog.

How do you hope to inspire people? I hope by sharing my story, my life and my goals on my blog may encourage someone else to get moving just a little more and more each day. Life has many challenges but you can work around them, make your health the focus and attend your goal in the end.

What’s your favorite workout? My primary workout is lifting and cardio, especially hiking. I regularly incorporate yoga as well for increased flexibility.

How long have you been working out?I started working out regularly about two years ago.

How often do you workout?I typically work out 4-6 days a week

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in? Lululemon sports bra, a pair of athletic/yoga pants and my sweat pink tank layered with a plain racerback.

What is your favorite healthy snack and meal? My favorite healthy snack and meal…that’s hard because it changes every few weeks when I get bored! Lately my favorite healthy snack has been spinach salad with walnuts, strawberries, onions and jalapeños with lemon juice. Or protein smoothies. Meal would be, hmmmm maybe roasted chicken with a baked potato and steamed green beans and asparagus.

If you could eat anything for one day without consequence what would it be? If I could have a cheat day, it’d be crazy! Breakfast would be pancakes, bacon and hash browns; the rest of the day, Chicago style deep dish pizza, steak fajitas, chicken fettucine alfredo and a Coolhaus ice cream cookie sandwich.

What is your biggest motivation for staying fit? My biggest motivation for staying fit is definitely my son and my family. It’s awesome when I hear my son request broccoli for dinner, tell me he prefers brown rice to white rice, or that he "needs to eat healthy because it makes him feel better." There is a history of diabetes on my mom’s side of the family, so I definitely want to avoid that fate.

Any advice for the beginners out there? Start slow! Baby steps it the best way for success. You can’t run a marathon without months of training and conditioning, and the same goes for any major changes in your life. To start eating healthy, change one or two things every few weeks until you’ve tweaked your diet to what works for you on your journey. And explore lots of different activities until you find one you enjoy!

What is your favorite thing about blogging? I like being able to say whatever I want and focus on things that are important to me.

How do you hope to inspire people? To show that, even as a single mother, I am able to take control of my health and fitness. It’s hard some days, and I have setbacks, but I’m trying.
