Get on up!

Get your butt out of bed and get some sweat on! I need someone to stand by the side of my bed every morning at 5:00 am and scream this in my face. I used to be soooo good at getting my workouts in in the morning. 4:30 am actually. Maddox was just a little itty bitty guy back then and it was my only option. Now, I have more options and that actually makes it alot more difficult. I still workout out every day, but it’s usually in the afternoon or in the evening. I hate it. I just can’t get into my morning groove and I’m creating this list to help us both.

snooze

  • No snooze. I honestly do not hit snooze. I don’t even know how. I am guilty of setting my alarm to 5, then to 5: 30, and so on. Like that extra half hour makes a huge difference.
  • Still hitting snooze? Put your alarm clock across the room so you have to get up to shut it off.
  • Wear your workout clothes to bed.
  • Set out your workout clothes for the next day. I always have my workout clothes hanging up in the bathroom, ready to go.
  • Plan what workout you are doing ATLEAST a day in advance and get excited about it.
  • Put a motivating picture by your bed. Or a motivating quote. For me, it would be the opposite, but I’m weird. I should put a “fat Lindsay” picture on my nightstand to scare me out of bed.
  • Tell someone you are going to workout in the morning and ask them to hold you to it.
  • Ask a friend to workout with you. Whether it’s with you in the same room or you can workout together in your separate homes. Just knowing your BFF is yawning and slipping on her workout clothes just like you makes it so much easier to endure.
  • Plan a post-workout snack. I love food and I look forward to eating it. I like to plan my snacks. Usually it’s Shakeology, but after a run, it’s Shakeology and something else. Just keep it clean folks.
  • Have someone text you or call your phone. I’ve done this for people. If that’s what it takes, I’ll do it.

Starting Monday, October 22 I challenge you to begin your day with a workout. This will be a challenge group full of people with the exact same goal. To get up. This challenge will go for 21 days. By the end of the 21 days this will become a habit for you and you will not think twice when that alarm clock goes off in the AM. You will be part of a private Facebook group. This is for your accountability and you will also be provided with support and ideas. I will also provide reminders and motivation. If this sounds like something you need, click on the icon above and see my post on how to register. It’s simple and it will only bring out the best in you. I guarantee it.

No one has ever worked out in the morning and when they were done thought, “boy I really wish I wouldn’t have done that.”

Just get up. Get it over with. Your days are so much better when you start them off this way. Trust me. Now, I just need to listen to myself.

Have you noticed…

Have you noticed? I changed my name! I’ve been wanting to do this for a LONG time. My lovely husband helped me think of Sweets ‘n’ Sweat. I love the name! It explains exactly what I want to focus on. The sweet things in life and the sweaty! I hope you like the new name and the new look. I will be doing some work on this yet, but I wanted to get my page back up and running. So, this will be a work in progress. If you have any suggestions or questions, please let me know. I would love to hear from you.

Banana Bread Oatmeal

Did you see my post on Facebook this morning? My yummy Banana Bread Oatmeal? I made it ALL by myself and it turned out delicious!

1/2 cup oats (I used Bob’s Red Mill 5 Grain Rolled Hot Cereal)

1 cup Almond Milk

1 teaspoon Nutmeg (to taste)

2 teaspoon cinnamon (to taste)

1 tablespoon vanilla

Banana

Mix all ingredients except for banana in small pot and heat until oats are cooked through. When it is to the consistency you prefer take off heat. Pour in bowl and cut up a banana and place on top. Enjoy!

I ran this morning before work. After I run I ALWAYS have Shakeology. It’s important to replace lost minerals and nutrients. It also re-energizes and reduces muscle soreness. There are so many more reasons why I still drink this every day. I could go on and on. Want me to? Later? Ok.

Anyways, about an hour after I drink my shake I make my breakfast and it’s usually oatmeal. Peanut butter oatmeal is one of my favorites, but I decided I was in a banana bread mood. Hence, the new recipe.

About once or twice a week my husband and I do our own things for dinner. That’s when I make something I know I love and he doesn’t. Then I can eat it all! I found a zucchini (a huge zucchini) sitting in my garden today. I decided to chop it up and just roast it with a bunch of other root veggies like beets, carrots, and onions. I doubled the batch so I can I have left overs tomorrow. I made some quinoa to go along with it. They pair nicely.

Tomorrow is my Friday. Tyrell informed me that he hates when people say that. He’s just jealous. I’m getting excited for the weekend. It’s our class reunion (10 years). We had such a small class, only 13 of us, so it will be fun to see and visit with everyone. I better start looking for something to wear now…

I’m a freak…

Chia seeds. I love putting them in my Shakeology shakes. They are so good for you. You can pretty much sneak them in anywhere…and you should!

I tried something new today. I made some chia seed pudding. I have never tried this, but I wanted to say I did…

1/4 cup Chia seeds

1 Almond milk

2 TBL PB2

Mix PB2 and milk together until blended well. Add seeds. Mix. Let sit in fridge until seeds are ready.

Hmmm. Now let me tell you about a stupid little fear I have. I have a fear of little tiny things in a group. Sounds so stupid when I type it. But, it’s true. When I make rice, beans, quinoa, etc. I can’t look at it for very long (when it’s uncooked) or else it creeps me out. Yes, I’m a freak. So, I think making this pudding put me out of my comfort zone! Such a big day for me!

I told myself, “Just eat it. Don’t look at it.” My first thought was, very tasty. I had a few more bites. I was watching Peppa Pig with Maddox so I never looked down until I was half way through the bowl. Well, that did it. Now don’t get me wrong, this is a very tasty little treat and I don’t want you to be scared to try new, healthy things, but I need to be blind folded! (I think I will stick to sneaking it into Shakeology.) So I set it down on the coffee table in front of me. I could still see it so I put it on the floor. I have to remember to pick it up before my husband comes home or else he’ll wonder what the heck I’m up to now…

 

Eggs and Little House

Saturday: P90X Shoulders and Arms
Sunday: Run 4 miles (treadmill)
Monday: Cross training.
Tuesday: Run 3 miles (treadmill)
Wednesday: Bedroom remodeling!
Thursday: Run 3 miles (treadmill)
Friday: P90X Shoulders and Arms

Busy week! I am at the end of week two with my half marathon training. So far so good! I am mixing up my workouts to keep it interesting on my off running days.

We celebrated the fourth of July with a bang. Not. We started working on our bedroom. The country western border and pink carpet just weren’t doing it for me anymore. We have lived here for 4 years and it finally came down…after four hours of scraping! I think a great way to ruin someones day or to get even with someome would be to sneak into their house and put up a border.

Bedroom is painted and closet is painted. Now, we need to pick out the fun stuff, furniture, carpet, and decorations. We are debating on the flooring, because we see that there is wood floor underneath the carpet…so, what should we do?

Was it just me or did Thursday feel like Monday? I ran that morning. My calves were so tight from standing on a ladder all day and my neck hurt, but I sucked it up and ran. Got to stick to my training schedule or I will get in trouble. I’m pretty tough on myself.

It’s Friday and I am living it up like usual. Watching Little House on the Prairie and watching the clock hoping it’s time for bed soon. Maddox just needs a bath and we are good to go. What kind of bedtime snacks do your kids like? We usually give him yogurt or unsweetened applesauce. We crush his vitamin and claritan and mix it up. Poor little man has been on this stuff since he was four months old. I wonder what it’s like to just put your kid to bed without medicating him. I am not complaining, just wondering. A mom can dream right? Hey, whatever it takes to keep
my baby healthy, I will do it! Maddox loves greek yogurt. Here’s tonight’s super hero snack:

I had Shakeology at 4:00, so I made myself a late dinner. An egg white with veggie cheese on a slice of wheat toast, sliced peppers, pickles, and grapes. Nom.

Weekend workout plans will do a switcharoo. I am supposed to run 4 miles on Sunday, but we are celebrating my grandma and grandpas 50th wedding anniversary Saturday. Mass, reception, dinner, and dance. We know how to celebrate. So, I will switch my running to tomorrow. I am planning on having my feet hurt Sunday from dancing too much.

Happy Anniversary Papa and Grandma Shirley. Love you both so very much. Muah!
