What’s your primary workout? Running/crossfit.

How long have you been working out? 9 years.

How often do you work out? 6-7 days a week.

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in? Black Fila toning capris (no wedgies lol), and a tank.

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal? Peanut butter and banana.

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do? WOW! I would eat biscuits and gravy (homemade) for breakfast, lunch would be pizza, supper would be cheeseburgers and fries, dessert would be cake and icecream 🙂

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit? My biggest motivation is knowing that if I stop the only option is to go back to being a size 24 and regaining the 100lbs I lost.  Neither of which is an option for me.

Any advice for the beginners out there? No matter how many times you fall, get back up! It doesn’t matter if it takes you 3 years to lose 20lbs..all that matters is that you progress 🙂

What’s your favorite thing about blogging? I love to blog because it allows people to see that I’m real. I’m human. I’m just like them.  Often people think I’m not suseptable to cravings, weakness, down days–but that’s not true! I’m just like everyone else, I just choose to push through those feelings!

How do you hope to inspire people? I hope to inspire people by giving them the hope and belief in themselves to put their health on the priority list.

Yesterday I ran my first race of the year. Another half-marathon. I ran it on the treadmill and it went very well. Mom’s Run this Town put together a Virtual Race, “Winter Wonderland.”

A virtual race is nothing like a real race, obviously. However I did appreciate the round of applause I received from my husband when I got upstairs. It’s almost kind of depressing when you “cross the finish line” because there is no one there to cheer you on, congratulate you, or give you a beverage. You just shut off the treadmill and go on with your day. No one notices. Except for the people you live with. Oh well, that’s not the reason I run. So stop being such a dang baby right? 🙂

Feeling pretty good today. My hips are a little crabby and my ankles ache a tad. I think it’s time for some new shoes maybe. They have about 400 miles on them and my right foot has a rip inside. Just about time.

I didn’t follow a specific training plan this month. Since I completed Les Mills in December I’ve been doing my own thing. We’ll see how well I do when I do my end of the month measurements.

January runs (so far):

**Weekdays I do shorter runs**

January 8: 2.24mi.

January 10: 1.89mi.

January 12: 5mi.

January 14: 3.05mi.

January 17: 2.90mi.

January 19: 9mi.

January 21:3.40mi

January 23: 1mi

January 26: 13.1mi

I plan on doing this type of training for the year. I like to do interval training during the week and save my long runs for when I have the time. Not saying this plan will work for you, but it is for me. So far! My next race will be February 23-“Barking Mad for Breast Cancer.”

Remember when I told you I’m running 13 half-marathon’s this year?

Well, I quit.

KIDDING!!!! My first race is this coming Saturday. It’s a virtual that will take place in my basement and on my treadmill. I do live in ND and it’s January mind you.

So, me and my trusty sidekick, the good old treadmill, have been very close lately. I’ve been running every other day and strength training on the opposite days. I run long on Saturday’s to prepare me for race day. I will keep this schedule up for…the…remainder…of…the…year.

Last Saturday (week before race) I did 9 miles. I have never ran that long on a treadmill. I watched episodes of Frasier. I tried watching Saved By The Bell. Nope. Just can’t do it anymore. I tried watching some music videos, but that wasn’t fun. Boy, can some people make some really crappy music. Man. I plan on watching a movie for the race. That sounds so stupid. My grandparents got me a gift set of 50 classic movies, so I plan on digging into this as well. I think I will watch Jane Eyre. See how this version is…

Perks of the Treadmill
***We must stop referring to the treadmill as the “dreadmill” people! I’m taking a stand and I would like to point out the TM perks!***

-Bathroom breaks in YOUR bathroom (no ditches, porta potty, etc.)

-Make weird grunting/tired sounds and no one gets weirded out.

-You can watch Frasier with the TV cranked to 50. Cause I’m 50.

-Don’t have to worry how you look before, during, or after.

This machine is ready for you when it’s too cold, too hot, windy, snowing, and raining. Or maybe you hate the sun and an ideal temp. Whatever. Just stop the hate people. Stop the hate.

I decided to buy a running watch for once. Super sick of my phone strapped to my arm. I am sure I will adore this little watch once I figure the darn thing out! God forbid I thoroughly read the directions and not wing it! My fault entirely. But, I do need to figure it out by Saturday.

What’s your primary workout?
My primary workout is running right now. I love doing bootcamps but I have my first half marathon in 2 weeks so I’m running every chance I get.

How long have you been working out?
This is my new years resolution. I was tired of being tired so I decided to get my butt in gear. I had no idea that fitness would become such an important part of my life!

How often do you work out?
I try to get a workout in 5x a week. Realistically it doesn’t always happen. I’m a single mom of an active 9 yr old. I’ve been spotted planking andmindy2 running at my son’s football practices. Sometimes we have to be creative right? I figure if I don’t get a workout, the most important thing I can do is forgive myself and move forward.

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in?
My capris and a tank but I’m thinking it may be time to get brave and get a running skirt!

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal?
My favorite healthy snack is celery with a little cream cheese on it. My favorite healthy meal is a filet mignon if it’s my red meat day. I also love chicken with portabella mushrooms.

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do?
I would definitely get cheese fries and a Burger with bacon from Outback! Yum! And I would probably go to a fair and have some yummy fried dough… yep I’m definitely not cured of the bad eating lol!

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit?
My son is so proud of my hard work. That’s the neatest thing! Hearing him tell his friends at school that his mom is a runner was the best!!!

Any advice for the beginners out there?
You can do it! Stick with it!!! Its addictive! Give it six weeks and you’ll see!

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
I blog when something is on my mind. My favorite thing is when someone connects to something I have written.

How do you hope to inspire people?
I am just honest. I’m not perfect. I’m not a trainer or a fitness professional. mindy1 I’m just a girl who decided she wanted to get fit 😉 I’m just like you…and if I can do it, why can’t you?

What’s your primary workout? I like running and HIIT cardio. I also do strength training 3 times a week.

How long have you been working out? Really since high school I have been pretty regular with working out. I’ve never been blessed with a high metabolism so I’ve always needed exercise to keep my fat cells in check! Lol! Now healthy eating I still struggle with, but a year ago I lost 20 pounds using Weight Watchers to track and manage my eating habits. If you want to lose weight and truly be healthy you’ve got to focus on the kitchen as well!

How often do you work out? 5-6 days a week depending on my schedule and how I’m feeling.

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in? I really like these workout tanks I DIYed with my sister!

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal? My favorite healthy snack is Greek yogurt with blueberries. My favorite healthy meal would be homemade whole wheat pizza with lots of veggies!!

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do? Oh gosh. Well I would go to an amusement park and ride lots of rides, eat a bacon cheeseburger and moose tracks ice cream for lunch. Then I’d fly to Chicago, spend lots of money, eat deep dish pizza and cheesecake, and go see Wicked with my friends. Sounds like an awesome day!

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit? Honestly, I love not worrying about how my clothes fit. You know, when you pick out the outfit based on how it best conceals your muffin top? I hate days like that! I also like being in shape enough to run around and play without being winded. I’m also convinced I will live longer and enjoy life more fully because of my level of fitness.

Any advice for the beginners out there? Make one healthy choice at a time and in tune with your ability. Don’t sign up for a marathon, just commit to walking 30 minutes a day. Don’t swear off carbs for life, just say no doughnuts in the house. Make small permanent changes and then build upon them!

What’s your favorite thing about blogging? I love the community! I like that on a day when I don’t feel motivated or energized I can read others blogs or put out a shout-out for some motivation. I’m always uplifted by the support and encouragement from my readers and fellow bloggers.

How do you hope to inspire people? I want to help people to see that healthy living doesn’t have to be difficult or confusing. I want to help break down the sometimes overwhelming health and fitness world into manageable steps for my readers so they can see that fitness and healthy living is simple and fun!

What’s your primary workout? Running

How long have you been working out?                                        My entire life: I was a dancer starting at age 2 until about 20 and played many other sports (basketball, softball, volleyball) off and on. After college I started running and was immediately hooked.

How often do you work out? Daily I do something: run 5-6 days, spin class 1-2, weight training 2-3.

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in? If it is warm I am in   my Nike Tempo shorts, tank and hat. In colder weather UnderArmour tights and turtle neck with Smart Wool socks (and plenty of other layers!)

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal? I am a salad fanatic, lately my favorite is spinach topped with a mix of black beans, roasted peppers, sweet potato and salsa. My go to snack is homemade granola either plain or on Almond yogurt.

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do? I hate to say it but I would still run, I love it! but follow this with a huge piece of tiramisu and a couple glasses of pinot noir.

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit? The feeling I get after a great workout and always trying to better myself. My daughter is a a huge motivation too, I love showing her how strong women can be and role modeling a healthy lifestyle.

Any advice for the beginners out there? Find something you enjoy and start there, grab some friends or find a group to workout with which increases the social aspect and accountability. Set a goal and reach for it and don’t be afraid to reward yourself. Don’t be too hard on yourself or compare to others; we are all different and need to focus on better our past performances.

What’s your favorite thing about blogging? Running, parenting and cooking (oops that’s 3).

How do you hope to inspire people? Being a mom who still finds time to workout I think this inspires others. I hope I can pass on my love of running to others and showing that no matter where we start we can always achieve more. My first two marathons were 5+ hours and I now consistently run 3:30 and am a competitive runner, something I never thought possible when I began.

How Sarah lost over 40 pounds…

I get asked a lot about how I lost my weight and how I got into running. It didn’t happen over night, it took years of me being over weight and "trying" (not really) to lose weight. I told myself I was a happy person, I didn’t need my world to revolve around food and how many calories, fat, etc I was eating. Truth was it did revolve around food, but in a bad way. I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Never thinking about the consequences of my eating, or the example I was setting for my daughter. I had high cholesterol and my liver levels were not in the normal range, I was 40 pounds overweight and out of shape. I ate my meals like it was my last one.

Not sure why it finally clicked but in June 2011 (the 13th to be exact) I actually started my journey. Here are a few things I changed right away.

  • Started walking
  • Went cold turkey on cheeseburgers and fries for one WHOLE month.
  • Switched flour tortillas for corn (it’s the little things)
  • Started eating the Special K protein bars for lunch, usually with fruit, veggies, cheese, etc.
  • Quit drinking Dr. Pepper
  • Starting drinking water and lots of it!
  • Cut my portions down
  • Started eating breakfast. I’m still not a big breakfast eater, but I’m trying.
  • Protein Shakes
  • I started tracking all my food and exercise in My Fitness Pal.

I sarahbeforecan’t believe I’m making this picture public, but here I am October 2010, 40 plus pounds over weight. Sadly this picture wasn’t enough to get me active until June 2011. 

 

 

It was hard at first, really hard. But once I started seeing results it became easier. I tell myself every day I am happy, I am healthy. I will not go back to being 42 pounds overweight!

I walked 5-6 days per week, 4 miles at least with a friend. We walked all summer that year. When the time changed, it was harder for us to walk during the week so I started trying to run. I made it 1/2 mile and I thought my lungs were going to explode! I kept trying and I would run 1/2 mile, walk 1/2 mile and so on.

A friend talked me into signing up for a 5k on Thanksgiving Day that year, so now it’s getting serious. I did that 5k and I was hooked! I decided to sign up for the Cowtown 10k which was February 25, 2012 and my training began. I didn’t follow any specific training schedule, I just ran, each time increasing my mileage just a little bit. By the time February hit I was at 7 miles and I had lost 42 pounds.

I still struggle with eating the right food. I don’t have any special diets like Vegan, Vegetarian and Paleo. I just try to eat the best way I can. I still eat almost all the same foods I just cook them differently and eat less of it. I have been trying new veggies. I still don’t like asparagus. I did recently try spaghetti squash and I will try it again. I do love Broccolini!

I have days when I don’t make the right choices, I just know the next day is a new day. I can begin again.

I love being able to encourage others. I love that I have made new friends in this journey. I love that I am a good example for my daughter. I think I have made my little family proud of me. I never thought I could achieve anything at my age, let alone be running half marathons and be considering a full marathon. I never thought I’d get up before the sun to run. I don’t get up that early for anything but vacation!

I never thought at my age that I’d have something to be this proud of. I run to set an example for my daughter. I run for my health. I run to compete against my old self, the out of shape self, to prove to her that I don’t have to be her anymore.sarahchristmas

Running

How long have you been working out?
I have been playing soccer since I was 4, played college, running was a replacement for some negativity happening in my life, then it became a stress reliever and now if I don’t do it every other day, I feel very uneasy. So basically I have been working out a long time.

How often do you work out?
5 days a week

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in?
Depends on the season. I prefer lululemon turbo shorts, sweat pink tank top and my camelbak

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal?

Healthy snack: apple with peanut butter
Healthy meal: homemade stir fry

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do?
I would eat cake – lots of cake and different kinds of cake. TONS of frosting would be a must and probably endless nachos

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit?
Maintaining the mental sanity that comes to me after working out

Any advice for the beginners out there?
Be like Nike and Just do it. Get out there and start!

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
The idea of writing anything and everything that is on my mind. People interaction is nice too! As a computer programmer, I don’t get a ton of that at work!

How do you hope to inspire people?
Wow, my first reaction was “by being awesome”! hehehe Honestly, I hope to inspire people by just showing them that you don’t have to be running a 5 minute mile or trying to lose 50lbs, I mean, running will help you lose weight and if you practice, you will get faster; however, you can enjoy running without ulterior motives. I am on a mission to prove this and to inspire people to move forward in all facets of their life as opposed to backwards.

I know. I’m a week late. And you know what? I have officially lost my mind.

Yes, I have committed to running 13 half marathons for the year. Yep. Most of them will be virtual of course and on the treadmill. The treadmill is my best friend.
I figured since I have these big plans, I should spruce up my workout room. It had a nasty country western border that was just begging to be ripped off. Took me 4.5 hours, but I did it.

I will be starting a running journal and a workout journal. I plan on lifting on off running days so by journaling I can keep track of what I do. I also plan on plugging in my Bodybugg for 30 days to get a “feel” where I am at. Make sense?

It’s not going to be easy, but I love challenging myself. I am so excited. I have 7 races in mind so far. Once they’re scheduled, I will share my calendar with you.

Have you set goals for the new year? Are you challenging yourself enough to get there?

Last week I started to feel as if I was coming down with something. Sure enough, a truck hit me on Christmas day. Joy! So, not only was I sick, but Tyrell was too.
We spent the day grossing eachother out with our coughing and sniffling while watching Roseanne. It was a Christmas to remember. I told Tyrell that atleast we’re home together and it was better than a few years ago when we spent Christmas in the hospital with our sick two month old baby. But then I agreed with him when he said, “Yeah, but atleast we got to order Chinese.” So true.

My 90 days of Les Mills Pump was supposed to end on Christmas day too. I have 2 more workouts to do and I’m done. I don’t have a set program in mind that I want to tackle. I plan on running alot more, possibly scheduling a ton of races. I need to make my mind up about that soon. It’s hard to think about running when your lungs feel like they’re full of broken glass. I never get sick, once a year maybe, but when I do, I go all out.
