Hello world!

1 Mar

Hello hello!

Well, I had another one of my great ideas…well actually a good friend of mine deserves half of the blame. We decided a few weeks ago to sign up for the Bismarck 1/2 Marathon. No, I am not in over my head. No, I’ve never been a runner. Yes, I can do it. Yes, I’ve always wanted to be a runner. I was just too jiggly back in the day. I still have work to do, but I’m 70 pounds lighter than I was last year so THERE. The marathon is not until September so we have started an endurance training schedule a couple of weeks ago. Yes, I will be documenting this ever so wonderful/difficult journey. That’s the point of this blog 🙂

Right now we are on week two. The weather here has been just great so we have been so lucky to start training this early. Both of our training courses are each 12 weeks long, so we have some room for winter surprises.

Our very first run was tough. I was pretty sore afterwards. Again, I’ve never been a runner. I was a cheerleader all through high school. I had no interest in sports.

The next morning, I woke up thinking, I am so glad we didn’t make plans for running today. What do you know, my girlfriend texts me and asks if I’m ready to go again. Well, I can’t let her down, so off I went. I was happy I went the minute I got outside and felt the cold, crisp air. It was a good run!

We took a few days off. I’m glad we did. My hamstrings were tight! My husband has had his work cut out for him with all of these leg massages!

First day of week two went good. It was pretty cold out. I think it was the hardest run for me. I was dreading week two, day two. Our running time increased. I was concerned with how tired I was getting. I wasn’t physically getting tired. My breathing was wearing me out. I did some research on the correct way to breathe while running. That day was COLD. I think it was 5 degrees with a breeze. The roads were icey so we had to run up and down the Brickmaker Expressway. BORING! But, we did. The new breathing method really saved me! I can’t believe we did that good considering the weather, the boring course, and the increased time. I was very proud of the both of us.

Now, all I can see is snow, snow, and more snow. I think we are even under a winter storm watch. But, I’m pretending that that’s not going to happen. I hope we didn’t jinx this nice weather! I also stick to my regular scheduled workout programs, P90X and TurboFire. So, it’s not like I’m just sitting here staring out the window.

I am excited for the roads to clear and to get back out there. I love challenging myself, as you know. This is a big one for me. It really helps to be doing it with a friend. I think it would be difficult to take on something like this alone. I am grateful for her 🙂

I am grateful that you are reading my words and I hope you will stick with me. Take care of yourselves!

That’s awesome Lindsay! I’ve never been a runner either and one of my goals is to get there. About 7 years ago I was almost there and then got lazy (I really need to quit that!). Now I’m hoping to lose some weight and get in shape so maybe I can do like a 5K or something.

That is a great goal for you! You can do it Michelle! You are on the right path!
