Blog-iversary and a GIVEAWAY!!

1 Mar

Happy Anniversary to me! A year ago today I wrote my very first post. Did I think I would be doing this…still? No? Do you want me to stop? Maybe. I’ll stop when I run out of things to say. And if you ask anyone I know, I just don’t know how to shut up.

So, whether this is your first time reading my very well thought out words or your last, I thank you. I mean it. I really do. There are a billion bloggers better than me out there. But, you are here. Reading MY words. You must feel so much wiserer…

I’ll keep this short and sweet so you can go on with your lives. I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate you reading. It takes time to figure out what I’m trying to say. Trust me. I can barely make sense of myself. I love seeing strong traffic on a post. I love that YOU care about what I have to say. THANK YOU!

My gift to you: I’m doing a LÄRABAR giveaway. To enter, just comment below on how much you love me. No, just kidding. Just tell me what your favorite color is. Go crazy. And as usual…extra points for Facebooking, Tweeting, etc.

Love to you all!!

Another Liebster Award!

Back in December I was nominated by Shannon at Cut and Curvy.  Last month, I received a message from Brittany at BBB Fit & Healthy and she nominated me for another! So, since I’ve done this already, I’m going to cheat and just answer her questions…

  1. What’s your favorite snack? Popcorn or fruit.
  2. Would you rather be stuck on a deserted island alone with a lifetime supply of food or with your best friend and no supplies? This would be my best friend’s fantasy, my husband Tyrell, then he could pretend he’s on one of the dumb Surivor Man shows. He would do all the hard work and I would sit there and fry in the sun. It would be super romantical.
  3. What is your fitness pet peeve? Well being as I workout alone I can’t really see it’s something that any person does. I hate it when people act like it’s a chore. It really isn’t. Once you find something you love, it’s history. And another thing. I hate getting dressed to workout. I should really start sleeping in my workout clothes. Hmmmm…
  4. Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter? Facebook
  5. Who inspires you most? My son inspires me. I want to be healthy for him. I want to be around to bug him as long as possible! Muah ha ha!!
  6. If someone made a movie about your life, who would play you? Oh gosh, I hate these questions. I plead the fifth.
  7. What song pumps you up for a workout? Depends on what mood I’m in. Sometimes I’m hip, like all the cool kids out there, and sometimes I will crank up Guns n Roses or Aerosmith. I’m a child of the 80’s! I don’t really listen to music that much when I workout.
  8. If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? If they didn’t make me into a chunker munker-cookies!!
  9. What was the best gift you ever received? Depends on how old I was! When I was little, it was my “crawler baby.” In high school it was probably a Beastie Boys CD. I like thoughtful gifts. You can really tell when people pay attention 🙂
  10. What’s your dream job? Being a mom. I’m living my dream!
  11. What’s your favorite color?:) Tiffany Green or Cobalt Blue.

My primary workout?   Bootcamp, Running, Hiking

How long have I been working out?  Years, started in my 20’s…the gym was my primary workout, weight training, classes, everything from Spin (which I am awful at, because I kept sliding off the seat the faster we went) step classes with sculpting were my fav.  I am in my middle 40’s now and still maintaining and am always doing something active.

How often?  That depends on my mood :)  Five days a week is my goal, for sure…but some days I have my "don’t want to do it" moments

My fav outfit to Sweat Pink in? For sure my black yoga/running pants always…they hold me in:) and I usually layer in the winter months..depending on how much sweat or my hotflashes!!! In the spring and summer…running skirt/or cropped pant and tank…along with my sunscreen!!  Pink is my fav color to wear though always:)

My fav healthy snack and/or meal? I don’t have a fav…this depends on my mood..I do keep cauliflower and sweet potatoes in the house at all times…ready to steam when I need.  Celery is a huge fav of mine, cut up with an avocado and some beans and rice vinegar…and for sure Sushi…I love Nigiri with Ahi Tuna and wasabi of course 🙂

Cheat day?  Well the days I don’t get a workout in are my "cheat" days.  What would I eat? Whole wheat pizza with Feta cheese and peppers and veggies OR cheese fondue.

Biggest motivation for staying fit? My age now…My metab is slowing down and hormones kick in…Working from home and at a desk can cause the booty to get big…SO I remind myself of that…ALSO my family, I still want to play and keep up with my kids, and my hubby…I love to challenge him to workouts:)

Any advice for beginners?  Don’t get caught up with magazine pics and social media press and tabloids, etc… Air brushing exists because we are not perfect! Be real and be yourself. Take care of your body INSIDE first, then the outside will follow…this means learn about your food and eating healthy..teach yourself now early on.  Starting a fitness regimen? You will have those days that you want to quit and throw in the towel..trust me…but reach deep inside your heart and find your passion and goal…Don’t listen to your head…listen to your heart.

My fav thing about blogging?  I get to share my words with anyone who is willing to follow and read…better yet, for those who come back for more:) I get to use blogging as a platform to hopefully inspire and be creative with my passion.  There are so many amazing blogs out there and I love finding and following them.  It is like a "family" of kind and loving and supportive others.

How do I hope to inspire?  By letting others see "me" the real me and hopefully like what they see.  To be a "light" on someone’s dark day, to maybe ignite a passion for someone else or and idea.  I am inspired everyday by others.

Vegetarian Stuffed Peppers

26 Feb

20130220-205813.jpg

Super easy. Super quick. Let’s do this.

2 green peppers (to stuff)
1 red pepper
1 onion
Garlic
I can of tomato sauce
Rice-cooked and set aside (I used brown long grain)

I make alot of rice so I can pile it on the sides and MAYBE have leftovers.

Grab your green peppers and slice them down the middle.

Scrape and wash them up. Then brush with olive oil and sprinkle salt and pepper onto them.
Put in a 375 degree oven until they are soft. While those are baking, sautee red pepper, onion, and garlic in olive oil. Season to liking. I like to add veggie broth to help them cook and for flavor.
Once cooked and soft add rice and sauce. Take your peppers out and fill them up with your mixture. Tyrell has cheese on his. I just sprinkled some parmesan on my side. Have a big bowl of greena with this meal and you are good to go. One of my faves! Enjoy!

What’s your primary workout?
Running! I try to mix it up with some cross-training but always prefer to run.

How long have you been working out?
I have been running for more than 15 years. I started running when I was in middle school
because I was a little overweight, and just never stopped.

How often do you work out?
I try to run at least four to five days a week and cross-train a few days a week as well.

What’s your favorite outfit to Sweat Pink in?
I LOVE wearing bright colors and interesting combos (much to my husband’s dismay). This outfit that I ran in during the Ragnar Relay is perhaps one of my favorites:

lora1

As you can see, I love sweating pink in the brightest pink possible!

What’s your favorite healthy snack and meal?
Just like your favorite five-year-old, my favorite healthy snack is animal crackers! I love them because they are a “healthier” carb and actually a good source of calcium. I recently had some dietary changes and have to cut down on fruits and vegetables, which used to be my go-to snack.

As for meal, one of my favorites now is to roast up some potatoes, chicken sausage and broccoli
and sauté in a skillet on the stove. I add in my favorite spices – like rosemary, garlic and freshly
ground pepper.

If you could have one cheat day where nothing counted against you, what would you eat and do?
I don’t know where to start! Just kidding. Actually I would probably have a few pieces of pepperoni pizza and follow up with some Blue Bell ice cream for dessert.

What is your biggest motivation to staying fit?
Staying fit isn’t just an appearance thing – you feel better when you are fitter. That’s my biggest motivation. I want to be the best version of myself for my husband, my family, my friends. Working out and running makes me that person.

Any advice for the beginners out there?
Stay with it! It’s hard at first, and it gets better. There’s a point you reach where you have an “ah ha!’ moment and realize that this is what everyone is talking about. That’s when you find yourpassion and your love… once you get to that point, there’s no turning back!

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?                                          I love all the amazing people I’ve been connected with and all the great advice I’ve received along the way. There would be no way that I would have ever ran a Ragnar Relay without the blogging community! I’ve been introduced to some amazing products – like PRO Compression, CLICK
Espresso Protein and Sparkly Soul – that I would never have found on my own.

How do you hope to inspire people?
I hope to inspire people to make fitness and health a priority in their life. It’s so easy to come out with excuses like “I don’t have time” or “I can’t afford that” and I just want to show people that no matter your fitness level or how busy you are, you can do it. Health and fitness needs to be a
priority in our lives, like brushing our teeth or washing our hair. I hope to inspire people to take the jump to make it a priority like that.
